Which Low Carbohydrate Diet Is Best For You?

Executive Summary about Low Carbohydrate Diet by Trevor Mulholland

We’ve heard that diet plans don’t work the same way for everyone, even if they collectively claim that they can reduce the amount of “bad” carbohydrates in our bodies. The answer lies in careful study.

Here are three of the more popular low carbohydrate diet regimes.

  1. The Atkins Diet – This is currently the most popular patented diet plan in the market. The creator of this plan, Dr. Robert C. Atkins, is known as “The Father of Modern Low Carb Diets.” This diet promotes cutting back on carbohydrate intake, but stresses that different people have different nutritional needs, and therefore the diet plan must vary from person to person. The books also advocate balancing Omega-3 fatty acids and Omega-6 fatty acids.

  2. The South Beach Diet – This diet scheme, recently patented by Dr. Arthur Agatston, is thought of as a modified Atkins diet, with a few significant changes: while both Atkins and South Beach promote the elimination of “bad carbs,” the South Beach diet actively discourages eating the dark meat or butter of poultry, as they are fraught with saturated fat that produces “bad carbs.” Atkins poses no such restriction.

  3. The “Caveman” Diet – This low carbohydrate diet advocates a return to our ancestral roots, in a liberal sense; it simply promotes the elimination of artificial processed foods from regular meals. In this diet you can eat pretty much anything except foods that contain sugar, salts, and seasoning.

Low Carbohydrate Diet – a scientifically Proven Method?

Clinical studies show that people on a reduced-carb regimen lost more weight than those on a traditional low fat diet within six months. Arguably the most popular low carb diet is the Atkins diet, founded by the late Dr. Robert Atkins several decades ago. Since its explosion onto the scene, similar diets have sprouted, including the South Beach Diet, the Zone Diet, Sugar Busters, and Protein Power. Your primary carbohydrate sources should be natural foods like vegetables and certain fruits. Refined flour and sugar are perhaps the vilest villains that cause weight gain. Eating low carb foods would ensure that you get only the amount needed by your body. Several studies show additional benefits of consuming low carb foods aside from weight loss. Also, clinical evidence shows that a low carb diet helps improve blood cholesterol, reducing your risk for heart disease and stroke. If the low carb diet has so many health benefits, why have many people abandoned it? One major reason is the diet’s advocacy of fat that is found in food like meat and dairy products. While it is true that low carb diets permit the consumption of fatty, low carb foods like butter, cheese, and pork chops, they do not in any way encourage the gluttony. The abundance of naturally low carb foods cannot be underestimated. It’s not enough to go on a low carbohydrate diet, or any other diet for that matter, without getting the right amount of exercise. So if you do decide to go on a low carbohydrate diet, make sure you do it right.
